The American/Canadian dream is something everyone wants. In decree to conquer the American/Canadian dream one may have to struggle against society. Arthur moth millers The Crucible is a great novel that scans how passel battle against society to live their dream. This novel comp bes rise with Willa Cathers My Antonia and O Pioneers, and Joy Kogawas Obasan. In each of the stories the characters are tested with difficulties such as racism, prejudice, death, or love affairs. These novels show how deeply treasured the American/Canadian dream in reality is and how much of a struggle it can be to lock it.
Cathers style of writing is establish on her personal experiences with the world. In My Antonia she portrayed herself as Antonia Shimerda who was an immigrant living on the huge Plains. Antonia and her family had a very hard time trying to conciliate in; due to the fact they didnt speak English. Jim was the neighbour to Antonia and he befriended her and tought her English. Jim and Antonia become very close and soon Jim had to impart to go to college. Jim liked Antonia a lot and had to decide whether she or school was more important.
When Jim returned to the farm from schooling he observe she was already married and had 13 children. I think this compared well with the Crucible. Abigail was infatuated by illusion Proctor but John was already married and had children as well. Both Abigail and Jim lived on a farm and both had feelings for someone who was already taken. However, Jim always valued the very best for Antonia and always had her intensions in mind. Abigail was selfish and valued john all to herself and would stop at nothing to contrive him hers. Although these novels had great similarities they did have some differences. My Antonia`s backcloth was based on the farm, they faced problems such as Mother Nature, quarrel barriers, and racism.
