Criminal profiling is a process that detectives use to uncover the psychological, or cognitive thinking, that a outlaw would withhold. Criminal profiling involves analyse an offenders behavior, motive, and their background history, in an attempt to further guide an investigation. in that location are several types of criminals; murderers, rapists, child-molesters, prostitutes, armed robbers, and drug dealers.
First, to investigate a criminals behavior, a detective would carefully dissect a crime scene to find whatsoever kindly of evidence. If evidence was found at the scene, the detective would then contrast whatever they had found, to previous crimes that had been committed, in a similar way. there is a database, where criminal profiles have previously been created, and stored in a computer. This allows the detective some lead-way that makes it easier for them to track down the perpetrator. However, if the detective does non find any evidence, at the scene, then the case whitethorn become cold.
Second, to investigate a criminals motive, a detective would look at all of the possible things that the criminal could possibly gain, from committing the alleged crime.
The detective would instinctively question, or gauge to get information from any person that had been associated with the criminal. The detective would alike do some research on the criminal, by exhalation through old bills, medical records, telephone records, and any financial documentation. The detective would also visit all of the locations that the criminal had visited inwardly the last three months.
