As time transcendes, the final solution is further in the past, and to a hugeer extent Holocaust survivors disappear. Soon it will be our responsibility to re-tell their stories. The Holocaust is a major attribute for contemporary American Jews because we are living in a time where many of our grandparents and great grandparents were directly affected by the Holocaust. It is important that we are meliorate about the Holocaust from those who experienced it first-hand so we can pass on their stories to future generations to ensure that their memory stays viable and that their tragic experiences will be re shareed. While most sophisticated American Jews did non directly experience the Holocaust, they are saddened by stories of those who suffered, especially stories of family or friends. American Jews band together in order to keep the legacy of our ancestors alive, thus, establishing an American Jewish identity. My induces parents met during the Holocaust. My grandfather was the youngest of his 9 siblings. He was the only member of his family to truly fear great trouble ahead for the Jewish people. He fled Poland immediately after Germany invaded in 1939. With much strife, he made his way to a region in Russia that was not under German occupation where he met my grandmother. Only 1 of his 8 siblings survived the brutalities of the Holocaust.



We can assume that his parents and siblings were shipped off to concentration camps, only if we cannot be certain. This is one of the reasons why the Holocaust is an important symbol for my family. I know that many of my Jewish friends have like stories about their ancestors, and, if their family was not directly affected by the Holocaust, they interpret similar stories about their peers families and are extremely moved by their hardships.
