Motivation is an important concept for item-by-items in an organization to bring on in hostelry to help insure goals are achieved. Motivation is defined “as the process that account for an undivided’s intensity, direction, and persistence of trial toward attaining a goal” (Robbins & Judge, 2009). An individual’s intensity relates to how hard he or she will audition to attain a goal. The direction of an individual relates to how he or she will benefit the organization. An individual’s persistence relates to how wide he or she can keep up the effort to achieve the desired goal. Without motivated individuals an organization will not successfully achieve the desired goals.
Motivation Theories
Many indigence theories have been created to help organizations understand what makes individuals motivated such as Marslow’s. Abraham Maslow was a famous psychologist that studied human behavior and radical needs. In 1943, Abraham Maslow composed the world renowned hierarchy of needs. Maslow scheme of human motivation hierarchy of needs was shaped in the form of a pyramid.
In this pyramid were the highest and lowest underlying needs of human beings. Maslow believed the hierarchy establishment was started on physiological needs that consisted of food, shelter, water, sex, eating, drinking and warmth which were required to sustain an individual physiological equilibrium. After physiological needs are met prophylactic and security needs are next. Individuals seek security of health, body, family, resources and morality. formerly safety and securities are met anxieties and fears are then alleviated. After an individual becomes secure with his or her family, friendships, and sexual intimacy he or she needs to establish a sense of love and belonging. abutting in the hierarchy of need is compliments.
