Harriet Ann Jacobs Harriet A. Jacobs was the daughter of Delilah and Daniel Jacobs. She was born in Edenton, North Carolina in the fall of 1813. Harriet was six years old when her mother died. It was at this point that she realized she was a break ones back. Harriet Jacobs was the first woman to author a fugitive slave narrative in the U.S. Her primary motive in writing the book was to address white women of North .
